As a zealous iPad user I often get asked by iPad newbies what apps they should check out or install. \u00a0I’ve decided that to make it as easy as possible on me (and them), I will keep a list of some of my favorite apps here. \u00a0I’ll try to keep it updated as I get experience with a broader universe of apps. \u00a0You’ll see that the list is rather information consumption heavy, and not so game orientated. \u00a0I don’t do a lot of gaming on my iPad – although if I had more time I probably would. \u00a0I’ve tried to identify the apps that are not free at the time of posting.<\/p>\n

\nCNN for iPad<\/a>
\nFlight Control HD<\/a>\u00a0(Not free, but fun game.)
\nFox Business for iPad<\/a>
\nGood Reader<\/a> (Not free, but HIGHLY recommended.)
\nKcast Gold Live<\/a>
\nKhan Academy<\/a>
\nNPR for iPad<\/a>
\nThe Onion Tablet<\/a>
\nPaper by FiftyThree<\/a> (App is free, but to really make it cool you have to buy extra “brushes” which gets a bit expensive.)
\nSkitch for iPad<\/a> (Only worthwhile if it’s still free.)
\nSlate Magazine<\/a>
\nThe Wall Street Journal<\/a>
\nApp Shopper<\/a>
\nFind My Friends<\/a>
\nGoogle Earth<\/a>
\nEchofon Pro for Twitter<\/a>\u00a0(Not free, but free version available here<\/a>.)
\nFacebook<\/a>
\nJumbo Calculator<\/a>
\nInstapaper<\/a> (Not free but highly recommended if you take the time to learn what it is, how it works, etc. \u00a0If you won’t learn about it, don’t bother installing it.)
\nBloomberg<\/a>
\nThe Economist<\/a>
\nNFB Films for iPad<\/a>
\niBooks<\/a>
\nSkype for iPad<\/a>
\nCurrency<\/a>
\nRemote<\/a>
\nDropbox<\/a> (This is a very, very handy app. \u00a0If you don’t have a Dropbox account yet, you should get one right away for free. \u00a0If you use the link\u00a0http:\/\/db.tt\/1PvME9u<\/a>\u00a0to download and install the app on your home computer you and I will both get a 500MB bonus.)
\nSoundhound\u00a0\u221e<\/a>\u00a0(Also not free. \u00a0They have a free version here<\/a>, but believe me – you’re going to end up paying for it anyway, so you may as well just get the paid one to start with.)

\nTED
\n<\/a>Also, if you think you will use them: Pages<\/a>, Numbers<\/a> and Keynote<\/a>, although they are $9.99 each at the moment. \u00a0I use numbers a lot. \u00a0The others, much less.<\/p>\n
